beautiful boring pictures

On Monday 20 September I took another batch of photographs, which I hope are the most boring of all.  You will see just a gray expanse across the nave.  Gray has never been so beautiful, in particular a gray that is perfectly flat.  So I present a few pictures:

the first is from the entrance,

from the organ gallery you see clearly vastness of the nave,

again from the gallery you can see the work being done in the sanctuary (both cleaning and decorating),

from the gallery you see across the floor to the St. Ignatius Chapel

this view is up the side aisle to the English Martyrs' Altar

from the altar we see the view back to the gallery

from the altar a view across to the north door entrance, with the light playing on the floor

Much of the work being done right now is cleaning and decorating the sanctuary and back chapels, while the floor of the nave is drying.  This week they are putting in the stones that will be placed between the nave columns.  You can see the space that is reserved for them.  This picture shows two of the stones waiting to be placed into position.

If everything goes to plan the first oak tile will be laid on the floor on Monday 27 September.  I hope to be there with camera to note the first tile.

The final arrangements are being made to facilitate our return to the church.  The floor contractors need to finish the floor and then the heavy bits of the organ returned, which requires some scaffolding.  Then the pews need to be returned and safely put into position.  We should be in by the First Sunday of Advent (last Sunday of November) if all goes well.  All this takes time and I am a bit wearied of waiting.  But I keep reminding myself that when we return we will have a beautiful place to worship the Lord for another 100 years.

For the gallery of all the photos I have posted go here.

It is beginning to look like our church once more..

It looks light and bright.
