GOOD NEWS - Gerard Cook - new parish youth minister!

Come September the parish will welcome Gerard Cook as the new parish youth minister.  He comes highly recommended and, despite his youthful age, has been involved in parish youth minsitry for almost seven years.  He will receive an excellent program from James Potter.  I think all

Church photos from 2 August - Update 10 August

Some more photos from the church taken on 2 August.  There has been a change of plans which will extend the work a bit but make long term significant savings.  The original plan was for the contractors to paint the lower part of the nave's external walls.  In addition they were req

Philip Rozario, a former parishioner was ordained a priest at Ampleforth

Some parishioners may remember Philip Rozario.  He has been ordained a priest at Ampleforth this past month.  Margaret Duffy went to the ordination mass and has been sent a few pictures.  Unfortunately, none give a good view of his face, which could help some of you to identify him

19 July - latest photos from inside the church

I have not taken pictures inside the church since the base floor was poured on 5 July.  Progress is steadily being made.  The expanse of the floor is inspiring.  With the exception of the 'bloke' in the middle

Today they poured the new floor, with a series of trucks bringing the concrete; see here.  A metal pipe was laid into the church, so that the concrete could be pumped into the church

novena of the sacred heart - day 9

Today we pray for the whole parish having reflected during these past eight days on the vast activities of the parish.  I hope in your reflections and prayers you have come to see this wonderful community in its many shapes and sizes.  My privilege is to encounter you all in these many

novena of the sacred heart - day 8

Today we pray for all those who make our communal worship prayerful and welcoming.  The Eucharist, God's profound gift to the world, is the center of our faith community.  It enriches and inspires everything else.  So on behalf of the whole parish I thank the multitudes that make o

novena of the sacred heart - day 6

Today we pray for all those wonderful organisations that do works of mercy and explicitly help our neighbor.  If anyone questions if faith communities provide and social benefit, please look here.  The SVP's 10 active members provide regular assistance to around 30 people.

photos from the church on 9 June 2010

I have taken a few pictures and hope you enjoy them.  The inside of the church is definitely different from when we processed out on Easter Monday, the last mass in the church.  The progress is going well.  The only significant complication was that five of the 36 pilings could not

novena of the sacred heart - day 5

Today we pray for all the youth of the parish and the many groups that nurture the human and faith development. The sacramental programs of baptism, communion, and confirmations are very strong in our parish.

novena of the sacred heart - day 4

Today we pray for the Catholic schools in the parish - all five of them. The Sacred Heart Primary School is close to all of our hearts. Let us pray for all 450 children there and the 50 staff that provide a joyful, yet studious environment. Saying mass there is one of my special joys.

novena of the sacred heart - day 3

Today we pray for the social groups within the parish.  They are as wide and varied as those who make up the Sacred Heart community.  The Social Club plays an invaluable role in facilitating the other groups' hospitality, especially the liquid type of hospitality.  I encourage more

novena of the sacred heart - day 2

The adult formation is a diverse and fruitful part of the parish's life. RCIA provides a way for non-Catholics to learn about the faith but also explore their faith within an inviting community.

novena of the sacred heart - day 1

As we start these nine days of prayer we focus today on those groups that serve the church and the parish.

Statement by the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales

At all masses today, we are reading a letter from the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales concerning the recent international events regarding child abuse within Catholic institutions. I think it speaks for itself. It is unambiguous and very contrite.
