Once more about 50 men and women met for a very enjoyable afternoon. The subject for this meeting was “Interesting Objects”. Many of the guests brought along very special objects, items with a family or personal history. Some beautiful engineering things made by the persons sharing them perhaps 50 years ago. Particularly interesting was an arm band from a Japanese prisoner of war, a first class relic from Mother Teresa (when she is canonised), an exquisite little antique smelling salts holder, a picture (with a story) of Nelson, an ancient First Holy Communion Certificate, a cider warmer to mention but a few. It was difficult to break for tea and cake whilst enjoying this “living museum” and listening to the story of each very interesting object.
Now we are preparing for the September meeting on Friday 3rd at 2.30 pm when we will have a Poetry Reading afternoon. Come and join our contribution to Merton’s Festival for the Over 50s with a special entertainment of popular poetry read by guest speakers, to be followed by tea and conversation. All welcome.
