July 9 Meeting was another outstanding success. Over fifty men and women attended on a beautiful hot afternoon. The meeting opened with Andrew from Age UK (Age Concern/Help the Aged) who came to speak to us about a new service that Age Uk is planing as a companion to their “Handyperson” Service (small household tasks at a modest charge). They hope to start a Garden Service for older people. More about this in the weeks ahead.
Then we had a very very lively Beetle Drive. Huge fun – very noisy. Competitive – you could say that! The more able people helped the less-abled Poor sight , poor memory – nothing got in the way of having fun. Everyone wanted to know when can we have next beetle drive!
A Strawberry Tea followed this. The committee picked the strawberries the day before – so there was a plenty-full supply with lashings of cream and short bread.
It was such a jolly meeting AND so much laughter we created enough noise to cause Bishop Tripp to almost ask us to lower our voices as he found it hard to concentrate on his Prayers in the Church nearby.
Now we are looking forward to our next Meeting Friday 6 August at 2.30 pm when members are invited to bring along an object – something special to them and of interest to us, to show us, to talk about. We will discuss these objects over Tea and Cake.
