The parish of the Sacred Heart in Wimbledon has for over a century been a place of welcome and service. During this Novena of the Sacred Heart, I invite us all in thanking the Lord for the many graces he has given to us.
This Novena is designed to be prayed in your homes, in the morning, before or after the evening meal, or at bedtime, whatever is natural within your home. On each day a different aspect of service within the parish is highlighted. Please pray for these activities and all the people doing them and also for those they serve.
Please go to the website daily for a more detailed appreciation of the varied works within the parish.
The last day of the Novena will be Saturday 2 July 2011. On that day we will pray for the whole parish. On Sunday 3 July we will celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart at all the masses. However, we will have a special mass at 11:30 am to celebrate the feast and the parish. Our Archbishop, Peter Smith, will preside.
My hope is that through these nine days of prayer our community we be renewed and refreshed. I hope it gives us all a sense of gratitude of the myriad ways the Holy Spirit is alive and active within us. That sense of gratitude is constantly brought home to me. Let us all celebrate it in these nine days.

Today we pray for the whole parish, for all the organizations. It is the mozaic of the work of the Holy Spirit that we have focused on during this novema, The diversity and the vigor within this parish is a great testimony.
Today we pray for all those who make our communal worship prayerful and welcoming. The Eucharist, God's profound gift to the world, is the center of our faith community. It enriches and inspires everything else.
Today we pray for all the spiritual groups within the parish. We are blessed with a wide range of religious communities. Please pray that, through vocations, these communities will continue to bless the parish into the future.
Today we pray for all those wonderful organisations that do works of mercy and explicitly help our neighbor. If anyone questions if faith communities provide and social benefit, please look here. The SVP's 10 active members provide regular assistance to around 30 people.
Today we pray for all the youth of the parish and the many groups that nurture their human and faith development. The sacramental programs of baptism, communion, and confirmations are very strong in our parish.
Today we pray for the Catholic schools in the parish - all five of them. The Sacred Heart Primary School is close to all of our hearts. Let us pray for all 450 children there and the 50 staff that provide a joyful, yet studious environment. Saying mass there is one of my special joys.
Today we pray for the social groups within the parish. They are as wide and varied as those who make up the Sacred Heart community. The Social Club plays an invaluable role in facilitating the other groups' hospitality, especially the liquid type of hospitality.
Adult formation is a diverse and fruitful part of the parish's life. RCIA provides a way for non-Catholics to learn about the faith but also explore their faith within an inviting community.
As we start these nine days of prayer we focus today on those groups that serve the church and the parish.
Today we pray for the whole parish having reflected during these past eight days on the vast activities of the parish. I hope in your reflections and prayers you have come to see this wonderful community in its many shapes and sizes. My privilege is to encounter you all in these many
