PLANNED GIVING CAMPAIGN 2006

Last week we published a special edition of the Newsletter giving details of our Planned Giving Campaign. Copies of last week's Planned Giving Campaign leaflet are to be found at the back of the Church for those who did not have the opportunity to read it last week. If you have not yet done so, please do read the pink Planned Giving Campaign leaflet and begin thinking about whether you might be able to do more to help us raise the money that we need to preserve and protect our Parish.

PLANNED GIVING CAMPAIGN 2006

What is the Church worth to you?

When we launched our Planned Giving campaign last week-end, I explained that we are not raising enough money and that we must raise an extra £700 a week if we are to cover our weekly outgoings and, at the same time, to build up a reserve fund for essential long-term maintenance and repairs.

How do you decide what to give?

Nobody can answer that question for you but one way to find the right answer is to think about two things – what can you really afford and what is really important to you.

Most people give less than £1 at the Offertory and, for some, that is a sacrifice. But Cardinal Hume once suggested that people who work should think about one hour's pay when deciding what to give. If you do not work but receive an income the same rule can apply – based on one-thirtyfifth of your weekly income.

Could you afford that amount every week?

Next week you will be asked to fill in a pledge card on which you can tell us how you would like to help. I very much hope that many of you will take out a Banker's Order form or ask for a supply of envelopes for your donations and that every tax-payer will make sure they are signed up to the Gift Aid scheme. In the words of St Paul “Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”.
