This is the first of many jottings as we start up our newly designed website, which aims to be a window into the diverse and very dynamic worshipping community at the Sacred Heart. Over the months and years ahead this site will record and highlight the many acts of praise, mercy, and fellowship that routinely occur within our community. A different organization or activity will be featured each week to inform all of us of the activities of which none of us can really have a full picture. Please go to the feature this week which highlights the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC).
Indicative of our aims is the ad hoc committee that has brought this new entity to life. Many thanks from the whole community to Alan Fernandes of Jesuit Missions. He maintained the previous site tirelessly despite the increasing demands at Jesuit Missions and his expanding family. He has hosted a series of meeting of the website group. They have put in many, many hours in transferring and updating the material to this new site. But what can not be seen or appropriately appreciated is the time building the infrastructure of the site which will in the future allow dozens of parishioners to maintain their sections of the site. We have had a combination of parishioners technically aware to develop and design the site and parishioners who have a wealth of knowledge of the vastness of the parish and how people would want to use the site. As with any complex project as this, there have been some testy moments, but what has continually consoled me is that they have respectfully come to a general consensus. It has been a rewarding experience across generations and perspectives. I am very appreciative and I hope the rest of the parish will congratulate them on their achievement.
I finish by saying that this website is just being launched. There will be some kinks that need to be ironed out. Many will only be noticed by users. What would have required thousands of pounds to be developed commercially has been done internally by volunteers. So I would appreciate respectful comments by users in places where corrections, links, or modifications have to be made. In the next month of so there will be training sessions planned for many so that they can control and update their sections of the website. In addition I hope in the upcoming months to introduce more interactive sections for the youth of the parish and young mothers.
Enough of my words, please go and explore this site.
