I have taken another batch of pictures today. The pile of clay is being transformed into the beginnings of a new floor.
Today the original boiler had its top cut off to allow for the new floor. The rest will remain peacefully under the new floor. See it before it was cut off here. Also here.
In the previous photos the duct work around the periphery of the floor was being worked on. It is now done except for the entrance of the church because the gallery needs to be reinforced. More on that later. Here is a picture of the duct work by the Ignatius Chapel heading to the All Souls Altar. Here is a close up so you can inspect the quality of work. Someone in the know was impressed. Here is the duct work on the other side aisle.
Now for the best part. The rough beginnings of the new floor. In these pictures you will see the front central nave having the foundation work for the new floor. There is a base soil layer laid down and then a concrete base. It is not the strong floor to be, but a flat level base on which the thick concrete floor will be laid. Notice the several blocked off bits. That is the pilings which will support the real floor. So we are actually seeing the beginnings of the restoration rather than the end of the destruction which I posted two weeks ago. See these pictures: here, here, here, here
The supports of the Gallery have been found wanting. So we will need to have that corrected before we go any further. Here is the original support. Here is the temporary support.
The support for the steps going up to the gallery is seen here.
Finally a view from the back of the church across the nave. It is getting started!
