Baptism of Infants
Baptism is the first Sacrament of Christian initiation (Confirmation and Eucharist are the other two). Jesus Christ Himself affirmed that Baptism is necessary for salvation (John 3:5).
Infant Baptisms normally take place on Sundays at 3:00pm, although it is possible to have the Baptism at the Sunday Mass you usually attend. There is a preparation class in Church on the first Sunday of the month at 3:00pm, which both parents must attend. Godparents are welcome also to attend, if they are able to. As long as one parent is a Catholic there is no problem if the other parent is not a Catholic. There is no set fee for a Baptism: it is usual to make a donation of £100 - £200.
To book a Baptism please contact the Parish Office: wimbledon@rcaos.org.uk or 020 8946 0305. On receipt of the Baptism Information & Application Form, please read it carefully, especially the requirements for godparents (who must be practising Baptized and Confirmed Catholics). Then complete the form and return it to the Parish Office; the date and time will then be booked in the diary.
